A proposed tourist attraction and resort complex is closer to becoming a reality, after construction plans for it were rubber stamped.

Sunshine Coast Council has approved a development permit for operational work at Lot 2 of 2562 Steve Irwin Way, paving the way for an “extraordinary development” at Glenview.

It’s a key stepping stone for the creation of 51 two-and-three-bedroom lakeside apartments, the ACTVENTURE Waterpark and 23 luxurious apartments that are set to overlook a PerfectSwell Surf Pool.

Sanad Capital’s Brad Sutherland was delighted to get a green light.

“We are elated to announce this significant milestone in our journey towards creating a world-class entertainment hub,” he said via a media release.

“The approved engineering and operational works for Lot 2 epitomise our commitment to innovation, excellence and providing a complete destination, with unparalleled experiences for our visitors.

“We are excited to introduce a unique blend of premium and exhilarating attractions, redefining the concept of lifestyle entertainment.”

The development permit for operational work covers roadworks, landscaping, stormwater and earthworks.

Unless extended, the currency period for the development approval is two years.

It is subject to conditions, which include a management plan incorporating traffic control and communication with the public.

It also requires a landscape plan that improves future sustainability, and a construction plan that minimises impacts on the surrounding environment.

Other conditions are related to erosion and sediment control, work hours, air emissions and waste disposal.

The surf pool is expected to create a variety of waves that replicate a point break, beach break and reef break.

Sanad said the surf pool was set to “redefine entertainment standards” on the Sunshine Coast.

It’s expected to be one of the first of its kind in Australia, offering patrons the ability to book in surfing sessions tailored to their ability.

The American Wave Machine’s patented surf pool technology creates a variety of waves that replicate point break, beach break and reef break surf.

The adjacent apartments are set provide a vantage point to watch the surf pool.

Lot 2 would complement Lot 1, which also has approval for operational works and is undergoing a detailed design phase.

Lot 1 is set to include another water park, a four-star Invigorate Family Resort, micro-brewery, retail and food and beverage precinct, boat shed, sports club with tennis and basketball courts, action sports, outdoor playground, swimming pool and restaurant.

The entire project, over 25 hectare (61 acres), is expected to cost $350m.

Sanad aims to open the complex in stages during 2025/26, depending on several supplies from North America and Asia.

The project in its entirety. It should feature an array of accommodation, entertainment, activities and dining.
