A hinterland community now has an extra meeting hub after the official opening of a well-respected organisation’s new facility.
Mooloolah Community Men’s Shed was opened by members of the Mooloolah Valley Community Association and Federal Member for Fisher Andrew Wallace.
Men’s shed president Colin Roy said the facility would provide many benefits to the community.
“The benefits of a local men’s shed includes physical and mental health benefits, alleviation of loneliness, learning and teaching new skills, new friendship networks, and social gatherings for all joining the group,” he said.
The shed was built using a $250,000 grant from the previous federal government and constructed on land behind the existing Mooloolah Valley Community Centre.
“There has been a groundswell of local support for a men’s shed to be built in Mooloolah Valley and today we can celebrate its opening,” Mr Wallace said.
“Championed by Bernie and Anita Verwayen and backed by the Mooloolah Valley Community Association committee and more than 300 local residents, I was proud to help bring this project to the Sunshine Coast hinterland.”
Mr Wallace said the new shed would become a hub for the community, where members will support local schools, churches and community groups in the area by building, repairing and restoring furniture and equipment.
“Men’s sheds offer mateship, a sense of purpose and a place to belong for thousands of men across the country,” Mr Wallace said.
“The Mooloolah Community Men’s Shed will support the physical and mental health of local men and the benefits will be felt in families all across the region.”
