A new $20m commercial building that counts a tech company, accountants, design firms and eateries among its tenants has opened in the Maroochydore CBD.

Developer Evans Long opened A1, on First Avenue at the gateway to the emerging CBD, on March 3.

It comprises ground-floor retail, a level of car parking, three levels of office space, end-of-trip facilities, a rooftop terrace and views of Maroochydore and the ocean.

It follows Evans Long’s successful Foundation Place building, which was the first commercial development in the centre.

The building is 96 per cent leased to local, national and international tenants.

Evans Long head of development Sujay Singh said he was proud of A1’s clean lines and timeless architectural nature.

“The Coast’s largest global tech company, Maropost, has taken up two levels of the building, while other tenants include international architecture and urban design firm MODE Design and professional services firms Sunshine Coast Property Accountants, Sherrin Partners and Yield Advisory.”

Local eateries HIKARU Sushi, operating under new banner KIBOU Japanese, and popular cafe Harvest have taken up a combined 500sqm of ground-floor space.

Mr Singh said the building had plenty of room for tenants.

“A1 has met the needs of a number of Sunshine Coast commercial businesses who have grown and need more space. We’ve certainly seen a flight to quality for workspace environments, which is underpinned by the strength of the local economy and growth of the Sunshine Coast region,” he said.

Long-standing Sunshine Coast tech company Retail Express, which was acquired by Canadian-based Global Software company Maropost in 2022, has made A1 its national headquarters.

Chief operating officer Aaron Blackman said Maropost planned to attract and employ more than 200 staff at the new headquarters, in areas covering engineering, sales, marketing, support and senior management.

Mayor Mark Jamieson opens the building with Matt Evans and Dirk Long, who formed Evans Long.

“We believe this new building will helps facilitate our vision to become the global leader in retail, eCommerce and marketing automation software,” he said.

“I am certain that our new office will play a vital role in attracting and retaining local staff.”
