One of the first properties in Warana has sold to new owners, 43 years later.

No.146 Oceanic Drive was originally purchased as a plot of land for $15,000 in 1980, before it was built on.

It was sold for $1.605m post-auction on Saturday, at a 10,600 per cent increase.

The 591sqm property is 50m from the foreshore and close to goods and services.

Ray White Maroochydore sales and marketing consultant John Bartsch said it boasted plenty of history.

“Rumour has it that it was the first block sold when Warana was first subdivided,” he said.

“It was pioneering. There was just a bit of a goat track there originally, but the family had great foresight to buy the property.

“A husband and wife lived there quite happily but their kids thought it was an interesting decision to buy where they did because there was nothing else around then.”

The owners decided to build on the western side of the street, to be somewhat sheltered by the dunes from the easterly winds.

The property is just a short stroll from the beach.

The area boomed in the decades to follow and it’s now highly prized due to its proximity to the beach and to business.

“Back in the day there it was all about the beach and the privacy. But the whole area has evolved and there are now some amazing facilities, like businesses, schools and the hospital. Everything is nearby,” Mr Bartsch said.

He said the house had plenty of character.

“It well and truly has charm. You can see and feel that it was a house that was well loved with stories of family. It’s a sentimental attachment,” he said.

Now, after the passing of the original owners, the property will take on a “new lease of life” with new owners.

“There are plans to develop it with a duplex, which we’ve been seeing in that neck of the woods,” Mr Bartsch said.

The property is now surrounded by other homes. Major roads and businesses are not far away.
