Two local fitness coaches are taking health and wellbeing tips to the world with a podcast for a chain of gyms, which has its headquarters on the Sunshine Coast.

Callum O’Shea and Emily Heazlewood are the hosts of Gold’s Gym Australia’s podcast Good as Gold’s, which has just released all nine episodes of its second season.

The podcast features many of Australia’s top athletes and health professionals, but the hosts said the conversations and tools in the podcast go beyond just working out.

Ms Heazlewood said the podcast had a focus on nutrition, wellness, mindset, resilience and emotional stories of triumph, which she believed were crucial pillars to focus on improving in 2023.

“The stories, tools and learnings inside these episodes are extremely beneficial. If people are looking for inspiration and knowledge to help them set and achieve new year resolutions that can change their lives, this podcast is the one,” she said via a Gold’s Gym media release.

Cooper Chapman, founder of The Good Human Factory and one of the podcast guests, said leaning on helpful resources to build good mental health is key.

“What I try to encourage people to do is develop daily habits to have a maintenance plan in place, to not wait until you get to that poor end of the spectrum,” he said.

“It’s like if you’re out in the ocean: instead of just throwing someone the life raft to save them, let’s teach people how to swim.”

The podcast also features Australian Special Air Service Regiment veterans and best-selling authors of The Resilience Shield Ben Pronk and Tim Curtis, who suggested making little contributions every day to help improve resilience and mindset.

Gold’s Gym Australia claimed to be one of the first big box gyms in Australia to operate a podcast and season one aired in 2022. Season two has already attracted thousands of downloads.

A gym spokesperson told Sunshine Coast News the gym was “pumped” to be aligned with Emily and Callum.

Gold’s Gym Australia’s head office is at Cotton Tree and it boasts 10 branches around the country.

But it doesn’t have a gym on the Sunshine Coast – at least not yet.

“You never know what’s just around the corner,” the spokesperson said.

“We have a big year planned for 2023 and are so excited to grow this internationally renowned brand across Australia right here from the Coast.”
