A “dreamy” Mediterranean-style eatery has announced its sky-high plans for a first-of-its-kind beachfront venue.

After opening in September last year, Pavilion Mooloolaba has been giving diners a taste of the European summer and ocean views.

Now, its owners have lodged an application with Sunshine Coast Council to establish a luxurious rooftop venue on top of its existing venue.

The extension would include a rooftop bar and dining area spanning 364sqm and would be called the Pavilion Rooftop Bar.

How the proposed extension could look.

Co-owners Shane Hepburn and Craig Morrison said the proposed plans would take their existing establishment to new heights.

“The sweeping views of Mooloolaba Beach, the cool ocean breeze and the relaxed atmosphere makes the Pavilion not just a venue but an experience, and will set this venue far above others in the region,” Mr Hepburn said.

The Pavilion Rooftop Bar will sit on top of its the existing building on the corner of Mooloolaba Esplanade and Venning Street.

Designed by Wylde Co, it will feature the same iconic archways, textured walls and earthy tones as its lower level, incorporating a sub-tropical sustainable design with uninterrupted ocean views.

Over the past two years, the Pavilion Mooloolaba team has spoken with locals, community groups and stakeholders to understand needs, wants and concerns.

Mr Hepburn said the proposed development supported the Tourist Accommodation Zone of the Mooloolaba/Alexandra Headland Local Plan.

“We’re investing in Mooloolaba for the long term,” he said.

“We believe Mooloolaba has a bright future for locals and tourists alike and venues like the Pavilion can play a small part in putting the Sunshine Coast on the map.”

Mr Morrison said the rooftop bar would help add to Mooloolaba’s vibrant dining and entertainment precinct.

The application, lodged with council on November 30, included a Development Permit for Material Change of Use for a Food and Drink Outlet (rooftop extension).

The development application outlined that the rooftop bar’s dining area would include four booths overlooking the beach and feature other amenities such as a small kitchen area, bathrooms and storage areas.

It would connect to the existing venue via a spiral staircase.

If approved, the Pavilion Mooloolaba team aim to commence work on the project in early 2023.
