New Sunshine Coast-based airline Bonza has hinted that its second plane could be just over the horizon as it revealed the name of its first aircraft.

The low-cost carrier has chosen a classic Aussie moniker after calling for suggestions in early August.

Bonza asked Australians if they could ‘nick their nicknames’ and subsequently compiled a shortlist of hundreds of options, settling on Shazza.

The vote was undertaken by the Bonza Local Legends, a group of ambassadors in their destinations.

The Chief Commercial Office at Bonza, Carly Povey, said the decision was relatively easy.

“Shazza was a clear favourite amongst the Bonza Local Legends, who are the eyes and ears of Bonza in the communities where we’ll fly to,” she said.

“I can also reveal that the close runner-up was Bazza.

“We’re encouraging Aussies to keep an eye in the sky for what could be Shazza’s mate Bazza, flying to Australia soon.”

Bonza staff and supporters give some big thumbs up to the airline’s first aircraft at Maroochydore.

The Boeing 737-MAX, that touched down earlier this month, is currently having her interiors Bonza-ified including obligatory splashes of purple.

The airline is also progressing with in-flight and cabin crew training schools, finalising the all-Aussie menu and stress testing the Fly Bonza App, which will be the only place customers can book flights (with the exception of local travel agents).

Preparations are also underway to welcome Bonza’s second aircraft.

Travellers were encouraged to download the Fly Bonza App in preparation for when flights go on sale.

Bonza is Australia’s newest and only independent low-cost airline that calls the Sunshine Coast home and preparing to take off in 2022.

It is set to enable Australians to explore more of their own backyard at low-cost prices.

Ninety-three per cent of Bonza routes are not currently served by any airline and 96 per cent are not currently served by a low-cost carrier.
