A charming Queensland property steeped in history is opening to the market for the first time in more than 130 years.

Set on 2.95 hectares in the heart of Flaxton, 465-483 Flaxton Drive was the original site of the first house ever built in the area.

It has been owned by the same family since the late 1880s, when the property was purchased by one of Flaxton’s early pioneers, John Wyer, who immigrated from England in August, 1888, aged 20.

The original house was built in the 1880s, with a replica built in 2006.

John named the area Flaxton after Flaxton Hall Farm in North Yorkshire and the home, originally known as Flaxton Cottage, was once the receiving office for the district.

Perched on top of the Blackall Range, the original homestead was destroyed in a fire in 2006.

A replica Queenslander was rebuilt, oozing character and warmth, with modern comfort and functionality in mind.

The home includes four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a light-filled kitchen and expansive open plan living and dining area, flowing out to a north-east facing deck with sweeping views from the countryside to the coast.

It even has its own natural spring and waterfall onsite, which is the headwaters of Petrie Creek.

With a forthcoming auction, selling agent Jamie Hill from Property Today told Sunshine Coast News this was a historic opportunity for a “truly special” property.

The hinterland property has impressive views of the hinterland and the coast.

He said the upcoming generation of the Wyer family had decided it was time to sell.

“This was the first house built in Flaxton. The Wyer’s bought the land in 1889 as one of the original pioneers and when you are looking at that type of history it is so special,” he said.

“It was the original receiving office from the UK and they distributed the mail to the hinterland from there, for about 15 years.”

Mr Hill said the current house, now 16 years old, was in good condition but its views were the real selling point.

“The view from this property has the best views from the hinterland,” he said.

“Not only do you get sweeping views of Flaxton, Montville, Maleny and the Blackall Range, but you are getting the coastline too. On a beautiful day there is just no beating it.”

The home includes an expansive open plan living and dining area.

The generous-sized home also features hardwood polished timber floors in the living and kitchen area, bay windows, dado rails, a servery from the kitchen to the deck area and plenty of storage.

On the property, there are two rainwater tanks, a dam and room for a workshop or garage.

With rural zoning, Mr Hill said the listing offered a chance for a lifestyle change.

There is no sale history on the property and Mr Hill could not give an indication of the property’s value ahead of the auction campaign.

465-483 Flaxton Drive will go to auction on Sunday, June 19, onsite at at 10am. To register or arrange an inspection, contact Mr Hill at Property Today.

The deck faces north-east and offers amazing views.
The property has its own natural spring and waterfall.
There is plenty of space and fresh air at this hinterland home.
