A Kawana gym owner touched by tragedy has taken the next step in his efforts to help others.

Leon Stensholm, who has lost his brother, close friends and clients to suicide, wears many hats to assist people with their health and wellbeing.

He is a sports nutritionist, coach, counsellor, keynote speaker and author, and operates his gym Body by Leon, where he sees people one-on-one.

Now, his new book 60 Days to Mindfulness is poised to help people change their mindset.

“Practising gratitude on a daily basis is one of the greatest things we can do to keep ourselves in check”, Leon said.

“If you commit to and train yourself to make this a daily habit it will allow you to live a much happier life.

“Practising gratitude can help you deal with and overcome adversity, enable you to be mentally stronger, help you become more resilient and prepare you for the challenges life will throw your way.

The book 60 Days to Mindfulness is aimed at helping people to change their mindset.

“Before I came up with the idea for the book, I told my clients that instead of checking Facebook or Instagram every morning, the minute they wake up, to instead take 10 minutes and sit outside and breathe in the fresh air and just be grateful for the moment. I then asked them to write down what they were grateful for which could be anything at all.

“The impact was significant with people starting to realise that their life didn’t revolve around social media or keeping up with others and the sanitised version of what they were sharing, and as a consequence, we were able to start to see real improvements in their mental health”.

The book 60 Days to Mindfulness is based on a gratitude journal that you complete for 60 days.

Peppered between the days are tips, hints and resources for dealing with motivation, anxiety, goal setting, nutrition and exercise which are aimed at providing the user with a resource that will help them form new habits over 60 days.

The book will be officially at the Lakehouse, 15 Freshwater Street, Mountain Creek, on Thursday, November 11, at 6pm. It is available for purchase via Body by Leon.
