Sunshine Coast residents can expect a quicker, safer drive home with the installation of new traffic cameras at 10 locations now underway.
The works are being delivered as part of a broader $466.4 million package to fast-track road safety work across Queensland, jointly funded by the State ($102.3 million) and Federal ($364.1 million) Governments.
Federal Member for Fairfax Ted O’Brien said the Sunshine Coast needed, and deserved, the road safety works.
“This funding supports the fast roll-out of life-saving safety works on our roads and has been offered to states and territories on a ‘use it or lose it’ basis in six-month tranches to ensure rapid delivery,” Mr O’Brien said.

“The camera locations have been strategically positioned across the Sunshine Coast to target intersections with a history of incidents and congestion.”
Operators will use the new technology to monitor live traffic conditions and make life-saving adjustments to keep traffic flowing safely.
The system also helps to monitor weather systems, which can often impact driver behaviour, and will improve arrival times for first response vehicles.
“This will reduce delays on our roads and ensure local motorist get home sooner and safer,” Mr O’Brien said.

“This announcement is another example of the Federal Government working to reduce the number of Australians missing around the dinner table due to tragedies on our roads.”
The installation of cameras follows on from works completed earlier this year to install four CCTV cameras across the Sunshine Coast.
The new cameras will be installed between September and December this year.
While there won’t be any significant impacts, there may be possible lane closures to keep crews safe during the works.
