A musical adventure, based on a popular Disney film, will be on show at the Pacific Paradise State School Hall this week.

Disney’s Moana Jr. is playing from Wednesday until Friday. The 70-minute production, designed for middle school-aged performers, is based on the hit 2016 Disney film Moana.

The cast includes more than 80 students from Grades 3-6, led by Mrs Bonnie McBay and her team.

“Working on this production has been a joy,” she said.

“I feel our students can easily relate to Moana’s love of the ocean and her bravery.

“Our students have loved learning more about Polynesian culture, including learning how to sing in the three Polynesian languages used in Moana.

“We have even had a Tongan grandmother make grass skirts and gift us some Tapa material that have used to adorn our boat, which is the focal point of the story.”

The musical is a thrilling and heartwarming stage adaptation of the coming-of-age tale of Moana as she sets sail across the Pacific to save her village and discover the truth about her heritage.

She and the demigod Maui embark on an epic journey of self-discovery and camaraderie as she learns to harness the power that lies within.

Adapted for young performers, this musical includes favorite songs by Tony®, GRAMMY, Emmy, and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foa’i, and Mark Mancina, such as “How Far I’ll Go,” “Shiny,” and “You’re Welcome.”

There will be several performances, including matinees on Wednesday and Thursday (from 1pm) and evening shows on Thursday and Friday (from 6.30pm).
