New water supply and sewerage projects are set to help meet the demands of the Sunshine Coast’s growing population.
Water infrastructure for the Aura and Harmony communities is expected to ensure new homeowners have this essential service on tap when they move in, while providing a boost the local construction industry.
Unitywater Executive Manager of Sustainable Infrastructure Solutions, Amanda Creevey, said the projects, along with a new sewerage service to Aura, would help cater for the burgeoning region.
“With a population of 290,000 that’s set to increase to 470,000 by 2036, the Sunshine Coast is growing at a rapid pace and Unitywater is building essential services to prepare for this growth,” she said.
“We are working closely with the Sunshine Coast Council and developers to effectively plan for the region’s future needs.
“Unitywater will continue to upgrade and invest in water supply and sewerage infrastructure in a sustainable way to meet the demands of our growing region and maintain our low cost commitment to all customers.”

Ms Creevey said the projects would allow Unitywater to play its part in contributing to future construction industry opportunities at a critical time in our region.
“The Aura and Harmony water projects and the Aura sewer project are due to commence construction in early 2023 with detailed design expected to start as early as next year.”
“The Aura and Harmony water projects will include more than 14km of water pipes and two new reservoirs and the Aura sewer project will include a new pump station and 14km of sewer pipes.”
Unitywater will continue to engage with residents and businesses to update them and seek feedback throughout the duration of the projects.
