Sunshine Coast kayakers Alyce Wood and Alyssa Bull have shared their passion for paddling with students, before they head to the Tokyo Olympics.

The duo coached the Pacific Lutheran College kayaking team at Lake Kawana.

Olympians Wood and Bull shared their experience and advice with the next generation of Olympic hopefuls.

Wood said it was exciting to see so many children given the opportunity to jump in kayaks while at school.

“It’s great to see so many students from Pacific Lutheran pursue kayaking competitively, with so many of them performing really well at the recent National Championships,” she said.

“However, there is more to kayaking than just medals.

“Paddling is a sport that allows you to get outside, explore beautiful places and connect with your friends”.

“It’s a sport you can do for life”.

Alyce Wood offered plenty of tips at a kayaking session at Lake Kawana.

“There is a whole range of paddle disciplines from sprint kayaking to ocean ski paddling, so the opportunities for the children who pick up a paddle early, are endless,” Wood said.

Pacific Lutheran College Principal, Dr Bronwyn Dolling, said Pacific was one of a few schools in Australia that offered training for K1, K2, K4, TK1 and TK2 kayaking.

“We also have students learning the difficult art of C1 and C2 canoeing,” she said.

“Four of our students recently competed at the Australian Kayaking Championships and came home with a suite of medals.

“It was an amazing effort by all four students who rose to the occasion in the sprint kayaking distances.

“Our students now get to learn from the best. What a great opportunity for them to be coached by two Olympic athletes”.

Wood and Bull head to the Tokyo Olympics in July, as part of the Australian team.
