A man has been airlifted to hospital after a serious two-vehicle crash at an intersection in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

It’s believed the man was trapped in one of the vehicles and had to be freed by emergency services.

The Land Rover LifeFlight Special Mission rescue helicopter was tasked just after midday and landed in a paddock, near the scene.

The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor and Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) Flight Paramedic worked with paramedics, to treat the man for multiple injuries.

The patient, aged in his 70s, was flown to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, in a critical condition.

The Land Rover LifeFlight Special Mission helicopter performed this mission as it is temporarily based on the Sunshine Coast, while the familiar blue and yellow RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter undergoes scheduled engineering.

The aircraft is part of LifeFlight Australia’s commercial operation, which supports the work of the community helicopter fleet. It is rotated through community bases, when operationally required.
