Winter is coming slightly earlier than expected.
The Bureau of Meteorology says cold weather is on the way and the change in seasons should be noticeable.
The first official day of winter is Tuesday, June 1, but we will need to pull out our jumpers a bit sooner.
“Even as soon as this weekend,” forecaster Matt Marshall said.
“We’ve got the next weak front moving through so we are going to see temperatures dropping down as soon as Friday or Saturday.

“It won’t be a massive swing in temperature but it’s certainly going to be noticeable.”
He said we should see temperatures of between 14-23C during the week drop to 10-21C by the weekend.
“It’s going to really cool down at nights,” Mr Marshall said. “And there will be fairly brisk mornings this weekend, especially on Saturday, which will be a really sunny day.
“You will wake up to a completely clear sky and nice cool, air.”
But it’s not yet known whether this winter will be cooler than the average.

Long-term projections for rainfall are also difficult to make, but early indications are it should be a typically dry winter.
“The climate outlook suggests there’s not a really strong signal for below or above average (winter) rainfall,” Mr Marshall said.
“We generally see things dry out as we move into winter, with thunderstorms picking up again in about October.”

In good news for experienced surfers, there is a significant swell around this weekend.
There was a surf warning issued on Monday for South East Queensland beaches.
“That’s going to be swell of up to 2.5m to 3.5m,” Mr Marshall said.
“A lot of the swell has been whipped up a fair way off the Coast by a low-pressure system.
“It’s still travelling and we’re going to see the swell peak on Tuesday. There should still be significant swell throughout the week before it eases off sometime during the weekend.”
