The Sunshine Coast Bowls fraternity is mourning the passing of one of its most loved and respected lawn bowls officials.

George Lock, a Sunshine Coast Men’s Bowls Association Life Member, will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

He was 86-years-old, and he filled many roles as an administrator on the Sunshine Coast District Men’s Committee during the past 25 years.

George Lock held many positions in Sunshine Coast bowls.

He was Patron, Life Member, Junior and Senior Vice President, Chair of the very successful Winter Bowls Carnival from 2009 to 2020 and he was chair and member of the Selection Panel. He was also a national umpire.

George’s dedication to the sport of lawn bowls was unequalled.

Not only was he an excellent administrator but he was an accomplished bowler.

Follow Sunshine Coast News on Facebook.

He won many club championships at the Swan Bowls Club (Fours in 1997, 2007, 2008 and 2009, Triples 2008 and Pairs 2008) and at his most recent club, Club Maroochy, where he  won Fours and Triples titles.

He gained a position in the District Sides team from time to time.

George was also an international rugby referee in his younger days in New Zealand, and was one of the top referees in the Taranaki Province.

He refereed international games involving Samoa and Fiji, and numerous games in the Ranfurly Shield, the premier NZ competition of the time.

The members of Club Maroochy and the family of George Lock cordially invite members of all bowls clubs, and friends of George, to join them in celebrating his life on Tuesday, May 18, at 1.30pm for two hours of bowls prior to his memorial.  Contact Club Maroochy if you intend playing.
