A local community garden has come to life after the team from Mirvac’s Kawana Shoppingworld helped revive the Eastbank Edible Garden.
The Centre Management team from the shopping centre devoted the day to restoring the facility on Sportsmans Parade in Bokarina, with more than $8000 of labour and materials donated by the centre.
The Grill’d burger team from Kawana also served lunch to workers and volunteers.
The working bee helped restore the garden to its former glory, as a welcoming sanctuary for community events and vital space for Be clients.
Be took on the management rights of the Eastbank Edible Garden in January and has used its business links to future proof the facility for expected high demand from clients and the community.
Acting CEO Rosie Overfield says the edible garden is a facility that educates and informs but also is a real lift in the wellbeing of locals who spend time there.
“The Eastbank Edible Garden offers huge benefits for local people. Beyond helping to stay physically active, gardening is a mindful activity that gets people out and about and better connected with others in the community,” she said.
“We have seen community gardens flourish and grow in popularity and these are a great way to meet people, get some gardening tips and also grow your own fruit and vegetables.
“Not only does the garden help to drive awareness about sustainable living and food production, but it is so valuable for people of all ages.

“For Be clients, the garden represents a place to join in for community activities. The restored garden will include raised garden beds that will provide more access to Be clients when visiting the garden.
“The garden also has an undercover space that will allow Be to hold wellbeing programs for clients.”
Kawana Shoppingworld Centre Manager Robert Smith said they were delighted to lend a hand and help the edible garden flourish for locals.
“Our team at Kawana Shoppingworld is proud to contribute to the local community,” he said.
“We’re excited to be getting our hands dirty, making a difference for the many people that will use this special facility that not only educates but helps drive connection on the Sunshine Coast for people of all ages.”
The Eastbank Edible Garden will be used on a regular basis by people of all ages including Be clients, children and young people, families, and people with a disability.
