A fast-growing Coast suburb now has its own hardware megastore, after the arrival of one of the largest independently operated and owned hardware suppliers in the state.

Sunshine Mitre 10’s new store at Stockland’s Aura Business Park welcomed trade account holders for a sneak peek on Thursday, before the grand opening on Saturday.

The Aura store has been built across three commercial blocks and includes 65000sqm of land, including 3500sqm under roof.

Sunshine Mitre 10 general manager Neil Hutchins said the new store was an important part of the group’s steadily expanding network.

“Aura has some of the largest growth in population on the Coast, an area that will always be important to us with the business having started in Nambour more than 110 years ago,” he said.

“Stockland’s Aura development is already home to almost 10,000 people so this is a great location for us. The store will help us to service our trade customers as well as the rapidly growing Aura community, which is expected to reach a population of 50,000 when completed.

“With Aura being a thriving hub of construction with thousands of homes being built over the next 20 years, we know there will be a huge appetite from tradespeople, owner builders and homeowners alike.”

On Thursday more than 100 builders and tradies enjoyed wood-fired pizzas and beer from neighbouring Brouhaha Brewery, which is also located in the Aura Business Park.

Saturday featured a family fun day, with a free sausage sizzle, snow cones and fairy floss, a smoker demonstration, giveaways and more.

Mr Hutchins said the store had employed members from within the Sunshine and Mitre 10 network as well as more than a dozen locals who had been undergoing training ready for the store to open.

“This is our ninth location on the Sunshine Coast, and the 21st around the state, with the group employing more than 400 staff statewide,” he said.

The store is at 15 Edison Crescent, Baringa. For opening hours and more details click here.
