A Year 12 student from the Sunshine Coast is hoping the release of her new song will continue her growing career as a singer-songwriter.

Cora Ledwith, from Doonan, already has an impressive list of achievements under her belt, including performances at the Ekka, Gympie Music Muster, Eumundi’s Sunshine Sounds Festival, Horizon Festival and Royal Easter Show in Sydney. She has also won prizes at competitions including Take the Mic in Brisbane and the Noosa Busking Championship.

She will release original song Romeo and Juliet on February 24 and hopes it will help propel her to stardom.

“I would love to make singing my career one day and hopefully by releasing my original music it will help to do this,” she said.

“I love the way I feel when I’m performing on stage and seeing people singing and dancing along. It gives me so much joy.

“This is what I want to do with my original songs. Music has made me who I am today. I draw my inspiration from amazing artists, who have shaped me into who I am today, and I hope to do that for other people.

“It is my world.”

The 17-year-old says the new song is about the harsher realities of love stories.

“The song is about wanting a perfect relationship, dreaming about what you could have with someone, but knowing it will never be like that and the reality of a person messing you around making a joke out of you,” she said.

“I recorded my song with Nyssa Ray, who is a music producer based in Maleny. She is amazing to work with and we formed a great bond during the time I was recording with her.”

Cora says juggling her singing with study commitments during her final year of school is proving difficult.

“Although I have always been a high achiever at school, I feel my singing is consuming me more lately so it’s going to be tricky navigating my way through and maintaining my A-grades,” she said.

“If I got the opportunity to take my singing to the next level, I think school may have to be put on hold.”

Cora plays across the Coast most weekends, either solo or with duo partner Lochie, who are regulars at a number of bars and venues. For more on Cora click here.
