A charity that aims to drive inclusion and break isolation welcomed a sports champion’s visit to its golf program recently.

Golf Programs Australia Incorporated members were delighted to meet Special Olympics champion Andrew Stuart.

Andrew, from Scotland, wowed GPAI’s intellectually disabled golfers by sharing his story of competing for Great Britain in the Special Olympics at Abu Dhabi in 2019.

He proudly showcased his gold medal for program members to touch and see.

Andrew’s visit was timely as GPAI’s Sebastian McCormick had just returned from competing in the Special Olympics Australia National Games in Tasmania, where he claimed bronze.

Special Olympics champion Andrew Stuart and talented local golfer Sebastian McCormick.

The two caught up with each other at a private Diddillibah golf course, which is the home of GPAI & Special Olympics Australia’s affiliate golf program.

The Stuart family stayed at the Gibbs Farm location during a short vacation.

GPAI President & PGA Professional Darrell Dalton said his charity’s mission to drive inclusion and break isolation through the low impact activity of golf was embodied in Andrew and Sebastian’s story.

“It’s empowering to witness the courage, growth and resilience of these passionate athletes,” he said.
