The crackdown on an illegal camper in a national park has raised an interesting issue in light of the well-known housing crisis – if it gets worse do we need to lighten up on illegal camping?

Here are some thoughts from this week about the issues in the community:

Illegal camping vs homelessness

Why didn’t the ranger just shut her eyes and leave him alone if the camp was neat and tidy.

I am sure the nosey do-gooder member of the public is living in a nice comfortable home.

It is clear there is a housing crisis right now. What are you expecting of these homeless people?

No matter where they try to live someone wants to move them on. Contacting the housing department doesn’t work as there are huge waiting lists.

This is a country wide issue.

Revamp vs housing

Do we have some affordable and social housing included in this “much needed revamp”, probably not.

Honestly councillors, do the humane thing and start giving land that you have plenty of to start the ball rolling to build so very much and urgently needed affordable and social housing.

Of course, this request will fall on “deaf ears”

Rail Beerwah to Maroochydore

The rail line from Beerwah to Maroochydore has been discussed since the 1980s and trains were due to operate by 2001.

Back then we questioned why the rail was not going to Kawana Shoppingworld and we heard about the new hospital and shopping centre that would be built near the rail line which would be built a kilometre or so to the west of Nicklin Way.

Going along the Sunshine Motorway, at the point where Maroochy Boulevard crosses, you can see that the bridge has been built with a space for the rail line.

It is a total disgrace that politicians over the years have not built this railway and globally when it comes to rail we are simply decades behind the times. All the millions and millions of Dollars over the years spent on feasibility for this railway would have paid for it to have been built.

If Australian politicians will not build this railway, let’s look to China, who are currently building railways in all corners of the world and can provide everything including the ultra modern rolling stock.

Peregian Beach Post Office

I’m extremely disappointed at the closure of our local Post Office.

It’s just another essential service that we’ve lost over the years due to the changing nature of our once sleepy little town.

No dining at the surf club, lost our bowls club, Chinese take away, our butcher, fruit and vegetable store and soon we’ll lose our bakery.

Meanwhile, it’s near impossible to get a park due to the hoards that come over from the Springs.

The Sunshine Coast council approved that monstrosity of a development but contributes nothing to the infrastructure of this area. Such a shame.

Bli Bli Bridge

Take immediate action to widen this bridge, sooner, rather than later when there will be more traffic.

Bridge funds?

Due to the current population and traffic, the bridge is way past its use-by date.

However, considering the recent extravagance of our Councilors there may not be any funds for a minimum four-lane new bridge.

Calile Hotel Noosa

This proposed hotel at Serenity Close Noosa Heads would be built on land that is zoned for that purpose, so I would think it would be difficult for Council to reject the application.

I know lot of natural habitat for both flora and fauna has been lost over the years, but I guess it is better for urban land like this to be developed rather than, for example, inappropriate construction in National Parks.
