The wheels are in motion on a local annual cycling event starring a Sunshine Coast politician on a mission to hear what’s affecting his electorate residents.

Sunshine Coast Member for Fisher Andrew Wallace MP will hop back on his bike for his fifth annual listening tour around the Fisher electorate next week, cycling to 25 stops in five days in the electorate and hold listening posts at each location.

As it is his fifth year in the hot seat, Mr Wallace shone some light on some of the regular and major concerns for Fisher residents ahead of his listening tour.

“They presently revolve around infrastructure; including Bruce Highway upgrades, the North Coast rail duplication, and the passenger rail linking the hinterland to the coast,” Mr Wallace said.

Mr Wallace urged Fisher residents to attend his listening posts and voice any political concerns. Picture Andrew Wallace

“The North Coast Rail Duplication, which received $390 million federal funding on a 70/30 federal/state split, will increase the frequency and reliability of passenger services between Brisbane to Nambour.

“The Sunshine Coast Rail Project will revolutionise the way we move people around. This game-changing project – a rail line from Beerwah to Maroochydore via Caloundra and Kawana – will connect hinterland and coastal communities.”

Mr Wallace said in regard to the rising cost of living issues the job of the opposition was to hold the government to account.

“They need to be accountable for election promises, like lowering the cost of living,” he said.

“With these increasing pressures on Australian households, the Government must rule out tax increases, which would further increase cost-of-living pressures, in the upcoming budget.”

“I was pleased to speak on a number of bills last week, which adopted Coalition policy including the incentives for pensioners to downsize homes and the national health amendment (general co-payment) bill.”

This year, Tour de Fisher starts at Kings Beach on Monday, 10 October at 9am and concludes at Bokarina Beach on Friday, 14 October at 9.45am.

The stops in between include Baringa, Landsborough, Palmview, Glasshouse Mountains, Conondale, Maleny and Minyama.

“There is nothing that energises me more than getting out in the community listening to constituents, and visiting the great towns in the Fisher electorate,” Mr Wallace said.

“Coming to the listening posts are a great opportunity for locals to have their say and to sign a petition.

“As your voice in Canberra, I want to hear about the issues that are important to you and what will make the biggest difference for you and your loved ones.”
