Forensic Crash Unit investigators have charged a man following a fatal traffic incident that claimed the life of a 21-year-old Minyama man at Maroochydore.
The 25-year-old Mooloolaba man attended the Maroochydore Police Station Friday morning in relation to incident on Maroochy Boulevard.
He has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death and leaving the scene of incident without obtaining help.
The man has been given police bail to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on January 22.
The man’s sedan has been seized and subject to forensic examination.
Police said the family of the 21-year-old Minyama man who died have requested privacy at this time as they grieve the loss of their loved one.
Investigators continue to seek any witnesses, or drivers who may have dashcam footage of the incident who were travelling on Maroochy Boulevard in either direction around the time of this incident.
EARLIER
A man has presented at Maroochydore Police Station and been arrested following a fatal pedestrian incident overnight.
Around 1.30am Friday, police and paramedics were called to a scene where a 21-year-old man was unconscious on the side of Maroochy Boulevard, near the Maroochydore Homemaker Centre.
First aid was rendered immediately, however the Minyama man died on scene a short time later.
Initial investigations suggested the man may have been hit by a vehicle that failed to stop.
Police told sunshinecoastnews.com.au that a man had been arrested Friday morning by officers from the Forensic Crash Unit.
The man had presented at Maroochydore Police Station after a vehicle believed to be the one involved in the incident was found at the northern end of the Coast.
It is understood the man will be charged in relation to the fatal pedestrian incident.
Meanwhile, police are still appealing for information following the tragic event.
Anyone who witnessed the incident, or has footage from along Maroochy Boulevard between 1am and 1.30am, is encouraged to contact police.

Sunshine Coast police had “a challenging night” with the lack of an organised event – due to COVID – leading to parties and activities being held over a much larger area than usual.
Inspector Jason Overland said 502 RBTs were conducted with six drivers charged with drink driving offences.
Insp Overland said the highest reading was recorded in Maroochydore where a man was intercepted driving his vehicle the wrong way up Ocean Street. He recorded a BAC of .171% – more than three times the legal limit.
He said 37 people were arrested on 45 charges relating to a range of street offences, including public nuisance, obstructing police, possession of drugs and public urination.
“It was a challenging night for Sunshine Coast police with 277 calls for service between 9pm Thursday and 6am Friday.”
