Bookworms are ready to dig into a treasure trove of books as a much-loved festival returns to the Sunshine Coast.

The Lifeline Bookfest has been on hold since September 2019 due to COVID-19 but it’s back, bigger and better than ever.

It will be held at Nambour Showgrounds from Friday, April 15 to Monday, April 18, with proceeds going towards the 131114 Lifeline Crisis Support Line.

There will be more than 350 tables of pre-loved books starting at $2.50.

Lifeline Sunshine Coast Regional Business Manager Roy Frith said Sunshine Coast’s bookworms should get ready as there would be a record number of quality books for sale at bargain-basement prices.

“We are very excited to be bringing Bookfest back to the Sunshine Coast, and after such a long break, we know the local community will be eager to restock their home library and help us raise much-needed funds for Lifeline,” he said.

Semi-trailers are loaded with more than 200,000 books that are “ready to be snapped up”.

“There will be something for everyone, and all proceeds go directly back to funding our 24/7 Crisis Support services which have seen a surge in demand recently,” Mr Frith said.

Bookfest was first held on the Sunshine Coast in 2015. It was held at a hall in Bokarina but this year’s edition will be held at the much larger Showgrounds for the first time, to accommodate the huge volume of books.

Mr Frith said the community had always backed Bookfest and he expected a big turnout this year.

“Bookfest will be one of the best things to do on the Sunshine Coast this Easter long weekend – it’s a great opportunity for families to come and fill a bag of books at great prices, knowing that every purchase is helping to save a life,” he said.

There will be a thousands of books at the festival.

“As we have been unable to hold the event in the last couple of years, we will have a massive number of books on offer so everyone can be assured of picking up a quality read.”
