A new ‘health hub’ that would have a childcare centre built above it has been proposed for the burgeoning town of Beerwah.

A development application had been lodged with council for a significant two-storey mixed-use precinct that would include a medical centre at ground level.

The health component of the facility on 8 to 12 Turner Road could include a pharmacy and other services such as radiology and pathology.

The top floor, on level one, would contain a childcare centre capable of enrolling 100 children.

Unusually for a childcare facility, it would have an outdoor play area, which would be built on a suspended slab.

The childcare centre would include:

• 788sqm of internal ground floor area for the child care centre;
• 720sqm of outdoor play space; and
• 33 car parking spaces that are directly accessible to the child care centre

The complex which has been dubbed the Beerwah Health Hub is proposed to take up three adjoining vacant lots and would include a food and drink outlet such as a cafe and a shop.

The ground floor medical centre and retail with 45 carparks would include:

  • Health Care Services: 1,045sqm of ground floor area
  • Shop: 205sqm of ground floor area
  • Food and Drink Outlet: 100sqm

“The ground floor tenancy layout has been designed to in two sections, which are separated by a central piazza/walkway area,” states the developer’s planning report.

The application lodged with Sunshine Coast Council says the medical building will have floor-to-roof glass walls to provide an interface with the street.

It has been designed with an awning extending over the footpath to provide pedestrian shelter.

Streetscape improvements would be undertaken on the verge such as creating small grassy gardens and benches to complement the built form.

The developer is seeking a material change of use on the site which is located within the Beerwah Town Centre.

The proposed height is in keeping with the 8.5m maximum for the area.

Beerwah is experiencing considerable interest from developers.

As reported by Sunshine Coast News, Peregian Beach-based  Altum Property Group has secured a 4066m2 site in the heart of Beerwah, for an apartment complex that would help provide much-needed rental accommodation.
