Night roadworks will begin on one of the Coast’s most congested main thoroughfares as part of $8 million in upgrades.

The work will be done from this month on a 1km stretch of Caloundra Road, from the Nicklin Way roundabout through to Bulcock Street.

“Caloundra Road is a busy urban-arterial route connecting Caloundra with the Bruce Highway and Nicklin Way — the section through the CBD caters to over 25,000 motorists each day,” said Member for Caloundra Jason Hunt.

“These works will not only improve the road surface but also reduce ongoing maintenance costs and provide smoother driving conditions.”

Mr Hunt said due to heavy traffic, works would be carried out at night, between 6pm and 7am, from Sunday to Thursday.

“We will also upgrade the traffic signal controller, signal lanterns and install CCTV at the Bulcock Street and Bowman Road intersection,” he said.

“This technology will improve traffic management by enabling Transport and Main Roads to remotely monitor this busy intersection and adjust signals when needed.

“Every effort will be made to keep disruptions and noise to a minimum while works are undertaken.

“Single-lane closures, traffic controllers, reduced speed limits and signs will be in place to ensure road worker and motorist safety.”

He said the rehabilitation was part of the Palaszczuk Government’s record $27.5 billion four-year roads and transport plan for Queensland

Mr Hunt said other Sunshine Coast works included:

  • $932 million Bruce Highway Caloundra Road to Sunshine Motorway upgrade
  • $320 million Sunshine Motorway Mooloolah River Interchange Upgrade, Stage 1
  • $301.25 million Bruce Highway Maroochydore Road and Mons Road Interchanges (under construction)

“As always, motorists should observe all directions when approaching road works and adapt their driving to the changed conditions.

“We thank the community in advance for its patience and cooperation during this essential upgrade.”
