A man who checked his Lotto numbers in the middle of the night was stunned to see he and his wife had won more than a million dollars.

The Caloundra resident awoke to get a drink of water, when he looked at the results of Saturday’s Gold Lotto draw.

He was startled to see they’d won $1,146,615.85.

“I woke up and was immediately in shock,” he said.

“I just kept scanning the ticket because I couldn’t believe we’d become division one winners.

“We didn’t get any sleep after midnight.”

The couple held one of the five division one-winning entries and they celebrated with champagne.

The excited couple shared the exciting news with other family members.

“We contacted our children and asked them to meet us,” the man said.

“As I got out of the car, I said, ‘We’ve got a problem kids, we don’t know what to do with this,’ and showed them the win.

“It doesn’t happen to people like us. We just feel so blessed.

“I think we’ll try and wrap our heads around the win first, then we’ll share it with our family and buy ourselves a new car.”

The winning couple celebrated with family.

The winning entry was purchased at Pelican Waters Newsagency at the Pelican Waters Shopping Village.

“I told the newsagent, ‘You are looking at the division one winner right here’ when I bought the ticket,” the winning wife said.

“Little did I know, we were about to become millionaires.”

Newsagency owners Mark and Lynda Stringer said it was fantastic to sell their first division one winning entry.

“We’re completely blown away,” they said.

“There’s a buzz around the shop. Every customer hopes they’re next.

“We want to wish the winners our sincere congratulations and all the best in the future.”

The winning numbers in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4245 on March 26 were 21, 13, 22, 2, 33, 8, while the supplementary numbers were 10 and 27.

The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 336 so far this financial year.

Tuesday’s Oz Lotto offers $2 million, while Thursday’s Powerball has $8 million up for grabs.
