Those with a sweet tooth can now get their hands on some decadently delicious treats after one of Australia’s most decorated patisserie chefs opened a Queensland-first offering on the Sunshine Coast.

Known as the “Sweet Assassin”, celebrity chef Adriano Zumbo has made a name for himself as the king of desserts.

Zumbo has launched Zumbo Test, a commercial space in Noosa, where he can experiment with new and wonderful creations.

He has a range of sweet temptations on offer, from Zumbo’s version of macaroons to a selection of donuts and decadent tarts.

The creations currently are available for order only, but Zumbo told Sunshine Coast News he had plans to welcome walk-in customers to a retail patisserie.

Zumbo became a household name from regular television appearances on MasterChef and as host of the cooking series Zumbo’s Just Desserts.

He is also known for his Netflix series Sugar Rush.

Off the back of his success, he opened a patisserie empire with 11 stores across Sydney and Melbourne. However, in 2018 his company was forced into administration.

He relocated to the Sunshine Coast, with his girlfriend of five years and former My Kitchen Rules contestant Nelly Riggio, and he has been quietly working behind the scenes on his new project.

Zumbo said he had the “mojo” to cook again and was excited about what he had to offer the region.

“I got the mojo back to cook again! I had a heap of different ideas and different brand ideas and just wanted to create a place where I can express all the brands and create what I want, trying to use as much local ingredients possible,” he said.

“Noosaville popped up and the space had partial set-up of facilities we needed. It has a good local and tourist mix.

“I am looking forward to sharing the creativity with the Coast and being able to cook again and try new ideas.

“I am always wanting to create unique ideas and I hope the Coast likes my vision.”

Currently offering his sweet treats though an order only and pick up system, Zumbo said the menu of choices would continue to expand.

“We have Zumbarons, brownies, tarts, cakes, donuts, muffins, quiches and more.

“Our menu will always change; I like to keep customers on their toes.”

Zumbo said the inspiration behind most of his creations was life itself, and that he did not have one favourite item to make but enjoyed the process and technical skill behind each creation.

“Everything I see, touch, smell. It all inspires me,” he said.

“I don’t necessarily have a favourite; I enjoy everything for what they are, and the technical skill sets each creation brings.”

Just like the big ideas for his desserts, Zumbo had big plans for the future and was looking at creating a small retail patisserie or bakery in the short term, but can’t reveal when or where at this time.

With Easter just around the corner he also said there would be a lot of “chocolatey” goodness to come.

“Easter is coming, make sure to check out our range of hot cross buns, and other chocolatey goodness, that’s coming.”

Zumbo Test is located at 2/32 Rene Street, Noosaville with online order available for pick up from Wednesday to Sunday, between 9am and 5pm. To order, visit zumbotest.com.
