An independent hardware store that has served the Sunshine Coast region for more than 110 years is expanding further south.

From its humble beginnings in Nambour, Sunshine Mitre 10 recently opened a new flagship superstore in July on Nambour Connection Road.

Soon, the new North Lakes Mitre 10 store will service the strong and increasing demand from the building and trade sector in that area.

Plans for the store in Stapylton St have been approved by Moreton Bay Council and construction is expected to start soon.

Mitre 10 is one of the largest independent suppliers of hardware and timber in Queensland.

Sunshine Mitre 10 general manager Neil Hutchins said the new store would complement other stores in the Mitre 10 network in South-East Queensland.

“As the population continues to grow rapidly, there is increasing and consistent demand for building supplies and construction materials,” Mr Hutchins said.

“More than 25,000 people are currently estimated to call North Lakes home and that population is predicted to grow by approximately 30% over the next decade, so the demand to service both trade and DIY customers is strong.

“With the addition of another Mitre 10 to the Brisbane network, we are working to keep independent hardware strong. By working together, we can provide the best service and offers for DIY and trade customers.

“This new store will include all the latest brands and products and showcase the best hardware product available. The site will have everything you need to get in, get out, and get on with it.”

Mr Hutchins said the new site was ideally positioned to service the local area as well as Greater Brisbane with its location close to the Bruce Highway.

The new North Lakes site will be 6500sqm, with over 3000sqm under roof.

Specific departments will cover building and hardware, coupled with extensive homewares, lighting and electrical, hand and power tools, kitchen, painting and decorating, gardening and outdoor, appliances and plumbing, as well as the dedicated trade products and services and the well-managed trade drive-through experience Mitre 10 is known for.
