Two busy sections of the Sunshine Coast’s main thoroughfare will be improved during the next few months.

Work will start in December on a $9 million maintenance project to resurface the Sunshine Motorway.

Member for Caloundra Jason Hunt said the Queensland Government was committed to the region, delivering nearly $3 billion in road and transport projects on the North Coast alone.

“We have delivered another record four-year plan, coming in at $27.5 billion over the next four years,” Mr Hunt said.

“As part of this plan, we’ll soon begin a $9 million project to improve the road surface of the Sunshine Motorway, which will see safety improve on this important network.

“About 3km of northbound lanes at Maroochydore and nearly 5km of the eastbound and westbound lanes between Buderim and Mooloolaba will be resurfaces as part of the works.

“The works will also significantly reduce future maintenance requirements for this section, to the benefit of the 50,000 locals who use this section of road each day.”

Member for Nicklin Rob Skelton said the works would begin in early December and continue into the New Year.

“Crews will begin resurfacing works on the motorway north of the Maroochy Boulevard overpass to just past the Maroochy River Bridge, Maroochydore,” Mr Skelton said.

“Works will then be undertaken on the on and off-ramps within the northbound lanes, before resurfacing the motorway from the Dixon Road interchange to Brisbane Road, Mooloolaba.

“Detours will be in place while works are carried out on the ramps, but this will be carried out at night to avoid impacts on locals.

“Resurfacing on these two sections is expected to take about four months, weather and construction conditions permitting.

“I understand this may be an inconvenience, but I appreciate everyone’s patience while we deliver these important works.”

Traffic control will be in place for the duration of works and drivers are urged to plan their journey accordingly.
