One of the Sunshine Coast’s fastest-growing estates will soon have a new mega-park with five hectares of green space, a dog park, picnic shelters and barbecue facilities, basketball half-court and multiple playground facilities and recreation areas.
Construction recently started on Harmony’s first District Recreation Park in Palmview after receiving council approval.
Children of all ages will be able to enjoy the new park facilities, with the addition of a playground with slides and climbing features, a pedal path with learn-to-ride elements, a triple bay swing, a dual flying fox, and mini soccer goalposts.
AVID general manager Queensland Bruce Harper said the addition of the new park had come with a marked increase in visitors and appreciation for open public spaces since the start of the pandemic.
“This is an exciting milestone, not just for our residents but for the wider Sunshine Coast community, after what has been an extensive 18-month design consultation process with council,” Mr Harper said.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of public spaces to people’s mental, physical and social wellbeing and to ensure everyone is able to benefit from spending time outdoors.”
The development of the District Recreation Park will be delivered in two stages, with the dog park being accelerated to open more than six-months ahead of schedule, while the rest of the park is still under construction.
“We know that our Harmony community are passionate about their dogs and want places for their dogs to run free, and the addition of the new dog park will ensure our four-legged residents are well-catered for,” Mr Harper said.
“Harmony will soon boast more than 130 ha of open space and with the addition of the District Recreation Park and the dog park as part of the development, we are able to offer something for everyone in our community.”

Construction of this new park follows the recent completion of a one-hectare Local Park in Harmony’s Unity neighbourhood.
The Local Park features a grassed lawn area for residents to relax on, along with an inclusive playground area including a bird’s-nest swing and wheelchair carousel, as well as a picnic shelter nestled in a shady garden.
