Police are investigating a crash that took the life of a young man in Palmview on Monday night.

Early information indicates the 17-yeard-old, from Sippy Downs, was travelling north on the Bruce Highway when his vehicle collided with the guard rail.

He exited his vehicle and was waiting for assistance in the emergency stopping lane when, at about 8pm, another vehicle, also heading northbound, collided with him.

The man was pronounced deceased at the scene and the driver of the second vehicle was transported to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Anyone with information relating to this incident, or relevant dash cam footage from that area, is urged to contact police.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
