The Block reality TV stars will help a Queensland company celebrate a new flagship superstore and a proud 110-year history – where it all began in Nambour.

Scott Cam, host of the long-running renovation show, will join 2020 series winners and Sunshine Coast locals Jimmy and Tam for the huge Sunshine Mitre 10 celebrations on Saturday, July 24, at the store at 980 Nambour Connection Road.

Sunshine Mitre 10 general manager Neil Hutchins said it was exciting to see the new 13,000 sq m site opening.

The store would employ 40 staff and offer the latest variety of products to retail and trade customers, he said.

A catalogue of specials will greet customers from 8am on the day.

Festivities will include a huge free sausage sizzle, as well as fairy floss for the children, and feature a balloon artist.

The Block stars will officially cut the ribbon to officially launch the store at 10am, and stay until noon to chat to fans and have photos taken.

“There will be plenty of suppliers throughout all departments to answer questions and give advice about DIY projects,” Mr Hutchins said.

“There will also be loads of giveaways throughout the day, with each customer receiving a special reusable bag celebrating Sunshine Mitre 10’s 110-year history.”

With 18 stores throughout Queensland, Sunshine Mitre 10 is one of the largest independently operated and owned hardware suppliers in the state.

“We have been steadily expanding over the past few years, with new sites in Bundaberg, St George, Brisbane City and now a flagship in Nambour,” Mr Hutchins said.

The new Sunshine Mitre 10 site on Nambour Connection Road.

“This new Nambour location is special, because Nambour is where the (Sunshine Mitre 10) company’s 110-year history began.

“So, it is great to see this new store, which will support our retail customers as well as the increasing demand on the Sunshine Coast for trade supplies.

“Sunshine Mitre 10 already employs more than 400 staff across our network of stores in Queensland, including the seven sites we operate throughout the Sunshine Coast.

“We are pleased to have committed to this multi-million-dollar investment on the back of a 25-year lease at this location.”

The new site includes 4000 sq m under roof and will be one of the largest in the Sunshine Mitre 10 network, with extensive retail product and trade supply through a drive-through.

The new store will feature dedicated departments covering building and hardware, coupled with extensive homewares, electrical, hand and power tools, kitchens, painting and decorating, gardening and outdoor, appliances and plumbing, as well as dedicated trade products and services.

“The entire project has been meticulously designed to provide the customer with the ultimate hardware shopping experience,” Mr Hutchins said.

He said Sunshine Mitre 10 would continue to operate the existing Court Road store for  convenience, and work to transition the 75 years of loyal customers at that site across to the new location.
