After 50 incredible years of helping patients across Australia, Buderim Private Hospital nurse Robyn Arthur is retiring to spend more time with family and to travel.
During her career in hospitals, Robyn experienced almost every specialty of nursing including birthing babies, nursing sick children, looking after critically ill patients in intensive care, as well as patients recovering from surgery and complex medical conditions.
Born in Kingaroy, Robyn knew from the age of three that she was going to become a nurse and her mum would often give her band-aids to patch up the injuries of her siblings.
Robyn began her nursing journey at the Mater Hospital in Brisbane at age 17 and graduated from her nursing in training degree in 1975.
Later in her career, Robyn completed her midwifery training at St John of God Hospital and further studies at Edith Cowan and Murdoch Universities, earning additional degrees in nursing and education.
After living and working in Western Australia for 32 years, Robyn has spent the past 12 years working for Buderim Private Hospital.

Karen Clark, General Manager, said the hospital team was very proud of Robyn’s incredible achievement and the amazing contribution she had made to patients and their families during her time there.
“Robyn embodies our values of compassion, respect and working together and her experience and leadership will be greatly missed by her colleagues,” Mrs Clark said.
“Robyn has cared for many thousands of people during her career and I’m sure the memories of caring for these patients and the positive difference she has made will bring her great comfort and joy for the rest of her life,” she said.
Robyn said the things she would miss most in retirement are caring for her patients, being part of the hospital team and mentoring newly graduated nurses.
“It is beautiful to see the blossoming of young nurses starting out in their career, and personally understanding the rewards they will reap over the decades to come,” Mrs Arthur said.

“I will also miss my nursing colleagues very much. I think they deserve a medal for all that they do for our patients, our doctors and each other,” she said.
“When I worked my last couple of shifts, my colleagues were so lovely and considerate of my needs and ensured that I was able to spend as much time with my patients as possible, which was my greatest wish.”
Buderim Private Hospital congratulated Robyn for everything she had achieved during her career and wished her the very best in retirement.
As part of UnitingCare, the Buderim Private Hospital is owned by the Uniting Church and is the only not-for-profit provider of private hospital services on the Sunshine Coast.
