Queensland Police have declared a crime scene after responding to a vehicle fire at the southern end of the Sunshine Coast.
Police and emergency services were called to Seaview Terrace, near Moffat Beach access 272, on Thursday at 4.24am, following reports a station wagon was on fire.
A witness told Sunshine Coast News residents heard a loud bang about 4am before discovering the black Denza B8 on the sand near Tooway Creek.
He said the other vehicle, a white Volkswagen Passat, appeared to have travelled along a path near the beach before being abandoned.
“If you walk along Moffat Beach to the bridge, it looks like it has driven along the path and got bogged there,” the witness said.
Initially, a QPS spokesperson told SCN that both vehicles had been set ablaze.
The witness said five police vehicles responded to the scene and no occupants were found in the vehicles or nearby.
By about 7am, the vehicles remained cordoned off while police continued their investigations.

Queensland Police said initial inquiries indicated both vehicles had been reported stolen from a residence at neighbouring Roderick Street.
“Investigations are ongoing,” the spokesperson said.
Police earlier urged members of the public to avoid the area because of smoke and fumes.
It is the second incident involving vehicle fires in the Caloundra area this month.
Emergency services were called to a white Kia Rio that was on fire at a unit complex on Edmund Street, Kings Beach, on September 2.
They later attended a vehicle fire involving a black Renault Latitude outside an address on Caloundra Road at Little Mountain.
Police are appealing for anyone with information, or relevant dashcam or CCTV vision, to come forward.
