New Queensland Government body corporate regulations will see unit owners having more say in body corporate decisions, even if they aren’t committee members.
The changes are focused on the modernisation of body corporate procedures and in particular, the capability for electronic voting and enhanced voting access.
The changes make it easier for unit owners to voice their opinion direct and warrant action and a response within stipulated timeframes.
Grant Mifsud, the Sunshine Coast Partner at Archers the Strata Professionals, recommends committees get up to speed on what changes are happening, so they aren’t left behind and end up in disputes incurring unnecessary cost.
“The new regulations change committee and general meeting processes. As a committee you should be prepped ahead of the changes before you are forced to be,” Mr Mifsud said.
Owners and committee members can easily become familiar with these changes by attending community education seminar sessions throughout the month of May, hosted by Australia’s leading online strata resource, Smart Strata.

The Sunshine Coast session is scheduled for Saturday, May 22, at the Maroochydore RSL.
Mr Mifsud said these seminars would provide the opportunity to speak directly with industry professionals about managing these changes and more.
“The seminars will delve into the new strata regulations, talk about how the changes are now impacting bodies corporate, and show us where people are not quite getting it right,” Mr Mifsud said.
