A petition calling for a 40km/h speed limit on a busy road near sporting fields has been presented to Sunshine Coast Council.
The petition was created by Christine Brig, who is part of the Palmwoods Village Residents Association, and has attracted 205 signatures.
It calls for a speed limit reduction on Jubilee Drive, Palmwoods, over concerns about road safety.
It was delivered by Councillor Winston Johnston at council’s ordinary meeting on July 23, where councillors unanimously voted to receive the request and refer it to the CEO John Baker to determine the appropriate action.
“This request is made with concern for the safety of vehicles and pedestrians due to increased traffic volumes, increased residential population at Sundale Garden Village, and greater use of the sports areas resulting in parking on verges on both sides of the roadway,” Cr Johnston said.
The councillor said he was supportive of the petition and believed the road was facing increased traffic demands.
“Jubilee Drive is an increasingly busy road, and it has AFL, cricket, soccer, rugby union, as well as this senior’s village which is very large,” he said.
“During the last couple of years, we’ve upgraded all of the sporting facilities with their clubhouses and that means there’s more people playing sport there, more people visiting there.”

Cr Johnston said while council had previously assessed the speed limit and determined the existing 60km/h limit was considered safe, he believed a lower speed limit was more appropriate.
“I think 60km/h is a bit too high,” he said.
Council will now consider the request and determine what action, if any, will be taken.
