The state government has pledged a record investment in social and community housing as part of the 2026-27 Budget.
A $5.7 billion investment is set to help deliver 6500 new social and community homes underway, as part of a commitment for 53,500 social and community homes by 2044, including youth foyers, domestic violence shelters and social homes in remote and discrete First Nations communities.
The pipeline of social and community housing would add to the 98,000 homes unlocked by the Residential Activation Fund, which the government is doubling to $1 billion in the budget, as well as continuing to deliver Boost to Buy and First Home Owner Grants.
Treasurer and Minister for Home Ownership David Janetzki said the budget was designed to ease the housing crisis.
“We are delivering a place to call home for more Queenslanders, with the social and community homes needed now and in the future,” he said.
Minister for Housing and Public Works Sam O’Connor said the homes were much needed.

“We’re delivering all types of housing supply because every Queenslander deserves a safe and secure place to call home,” he said.
“We now have work underway on a record 6500 social and affordable homes across Queensland.
“The additional housing construction funding of $1.024 billion in this year’s budget is on top of the $1.967 billion that we committed in our first budget, along with $500 million in permanent ongoing baseline funding from 2029-30, which brings our four-year capital program to a record $5.725 billion.
“This, combined with our support for specialist homelessness services and crisis support, means more vulnerable Queenslanders will have the housing help they need, sooner.”
