The southbound lanes of the Bruce Highway have reopened at the Ilkley Road overpass following a truck collision.

At 7.04pm, the Department of Transport and Main Roads provided an update to motorists on the QLD Traffic portal, stating Brisbane-bound roads were open but with a reduced speed limit of 60km/h. It listed the duration of the speed limit change from February 6 to April 1, 2026. Northbound speed limits are unchanged.

TMR added on its Facebook page that the Ilkley Road overpass remained closed and motorists should expect some continued delays while investigations and repairs continue.

“As a safety measure, the Ilkley Road overpass remains closed and has been temporarily wrapped to help prevent further debris from falling, ahead of repair works,” the post said.

“Further investigations and work are needed over the coming weeks to prepare for permanent bridge repairs. This may require southbound lane closures, which will be scheduled as night works to minimise disruption. Timeframes will be confirmed once details are available.”

The incident which caused traffic chaos on the Coast on Friday occurred at Tanawha just after 8:45 am when a truck carrying an excavator struck the overpass.

Emergency services, including Queensland Fire and Rescue, Queensland Ambulance Service and Queensland Police attended the scene.

QP told Sunshine Coast News that engineers were assessing damage to the Ilkley Road bridge.

Onlookers shared images of the scene and bridge damage on social media.
