An NRL pre-season game and AFL open training sessions are among an array of sports events on the Sunshine Coast this summer.
The Melbourne Storm and the Gold Coast Titans will collide at Sunshine Coast Stadium on February 21, a week after the Brisbane Broncos clash with the region’s representative team, the Sunshine Coast Falcons. Tickets are via Ticketek.
AFL fans will also be able to see three teams up close. The Brisbane Lions will have an open training session, likely to be at the Maroochydore Multi Sports Complex, on January 30. St Kilda will have one on January 21 and the Western Bulldogs on January 31.
The Suncoast Spinners Wheelchair Basketball Tournament returns to Caloundra Indoor Stadium from January 16-18, the Queensland Beach Volleyball Tour will come to Caloundra from January 16-18 and the Australian Junior Beach Volleyball Tour will be staged at the same location on January 20–21.
The Kite Karnival, featuring the Australian Freestyle Nationals, will be at Cotton Tree from January 23-26, and the Queensland Oztag Junior State Cup will be held at Sunshine Coast Stadium from January 30 until February 1.

As summer comes to a close, surf life saving clubs from around the state will converge for the state championships at Maroochydore. The youth carnival will be held from February 19-22 and the seniors from February 27 to March 1.
The events are set to inject millions of dollars into the local economy.
Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli said the Sunshine Coast was synonymous with sport.
“These events showcase world-class talent against our stunning backdrop, create unforgettable experiences and support the businesses that make our region thrive,” she said.
“I encourage everyone to get involved, cheer from the sidelines and enjoy our summer playground of live sports action.”
