A woman has died after being struck by a car in an alleged weekend attack on strangers.

The 24-year-old and others were hit after a male driver allegedly mounted the kerb in an apparent road rage attack, following what was described as a minor altercation with bystanders.

Police and emergency services were called to Aerodrome Road in Maroochydore following reports a white Toyota Yaris had struck a group of eight pedestrians.

The woman and three others, two 18-year-old men and a 19-year-old man, were taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

She had been visiting family in Queensland from her home in NSW, and died of her injuries on Monday night.

The driver, 38-year-old Guilherme Dal Bo, allegedly fled the scene in his vehicle following the crash. He was located by police at an Alexandra Parade address a short time later and taken into custody.

He was remanded in custody on eight charges of attempted murder after appearing at Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday, pending one of those charges being upgraded.

Police have alleged he became involved in a verbal exchange with a group of men at a pedestrian crossing.

Dal Bo is then alleged to have driven on before circling back and mounting the kerb, hitting two women and six men head-on.

Police said the women and men were unknown to each other and simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Investigations remain ongoing, and anyone with information that could assist is urged to contact police.

Dal Bo will next appear in court on Friday.
