For two decades, Venue 114 has been at the heart of the Sunshine Coast’s live music and community scene – a place where locals have danced, celebrated and supported causes close to home.
Formerly known as the Lake Kawana Community Centre, the much-loved venue is marking its 20th anniversary this month, celebrating a legacy that began when it opened its doors on November 5, 2005.
Since then, the venue has hosted more than 800 events each year, welcoming up to 80,000 patrons annually to everything from concerts and comedy nights to charity galas and school formals.
Over the years, Venue 114 has seen performances by some of Australia’s biggest names, including Jimmy Barnes, Amy Shark, Bernard Fanning, Missy Higgins, Hilltop Hoods, Xavier Rudd, Guy Sebastian, Boy & Bear and Powderfinger.
For younger audiences, there’s been the joy of The Wiggles, while local charities such as Wishlist, STEMM, SunnyKids, Bloomhill Cancer Care, EndED, STEPS, IFYS and Coast2Bay have used the space to raise vital funds and awareness.

Sunshine Coast Council Strong Community Portfolio Councillor David Law said the venue’s success was a testament to its community spirit.
“For two decades, Venue 114 has been more than just a building – it’s been a gathering place for our region, celebrating many important moments,” Cr Law said.
“From milestone celebrations to grassroots fundraisers, this venue has brought people together, fostered creativity and strengthened the bonds that make our community so special.”
He said the venue’s long-term impact was reflected in the connections it fostered and the opportunities it created for people of all ages.
Venue 114 underwent a major transformation in 2018, rebranding with a fresh contemporary look, a renewed focus on sustainability and inclusivity, and vibrant mural artworks by local artists Fuzeillear, David Houghton and EJ Zyla.
With 15 separate spaces across three levels, two performance stages and lake views, the venue has proven adaptable – hosting everything from major concerts and conferences to serving as an emergency evacuation centre.
As the surrounding Birtinya precinct continues to grow and the Lake Kawana Footbridge and future transport corridors improve accessibility, Venue 114 is well placed for its next chapter.
Cr Law said the Council remained committed to ensuring the venue continued to elevate local events, promote inclusivity and connect the community.
“To everyone who has been part of Venue 114’s story – patrons, performers, partners and the passionate community – thank you for making this venue a place where everyone belongs,” he said.
