“Don’t fake it, take it” is a local tourism body’s cheeky new slogan urging workers to take a “Sunshine Sickie”.

Visit Sunshine Coast’s bold statement comes off the insight that seven out of 10 of Australian workers faked a sickie last year for reasons other than physical illness, with symptoms of burnout the most common reason.

Aussies can now apply for their very own guilt-free Sunshine Sickie – an all-expenses paid, two-night escape to the Sunshine Coast. The region’s CEO is even putting his hand up to call bosses to arrange the day off for fatigued workers.

The competition is a cheeky new component of VSC’s established Sunshine Moments promotional campaign, which this year will be its largest ever.

The campaign includes a series of 15-second videos featuring playful headlines and new imagery that is being rolled out across Australia and New Zealand on TV on-demand, YouTube, Google, Meta, TikTok and billboards in Sydney and Melbourne.

Visit Sunshine Coast CEO Matt Stoeckel said that with almost two-thirds of Aussies having experienced work-related burnout, the best antidote to this was well-earned holiday.

“Whether it’s a dip in the sea or a hike through the rainforest, a nature-based break is just the right medicine and we’re inviting Aussies to come and find their own Sunshine Moment,” he said.

On September 12, 10 winners will be selected and given just 12 hours to pack a bag, grab a mate and head for the airport to catch their Jetstar flight to the Sunshine Coast.

Stepping off the plane, Sunshine Sickie winners will be given an overnight itinerary filled with some of the best wellness, dining and relaxation experiences the Coast has to offer.

Winners can choose from three specially curated mini-breaks designed for maximum relaxation: a Vitamin ‘Sea’ Booster, Forest Bathing Reboot or Haycation Rejuvenation.

Applications are open until September 11.
