A long-awaited new community space combining modern library services, interactive learning spaces and council services under one roof is almost ready to open.

The purpose-built $45.4 million Library+ Caloundra is designed to serve as a hub for learning, community connection and civic engagement.

Sunshine Coast Council Division 2 councillor Terry Landsberg said Library+ Caloundra represented a significant investment in the region’s cultural and civic infrastructure.

“This new facility has been designed to bring together library services, community spaces and council functions under one roof – creating a welcoming and flexible destination for residents of all ages,” he said.

“Library+ Caloundra will offer a range of services and spaces, from contemporary library collections and technology to large meeting rooms, event areas and council offices – all designed to support our growing community.

“This is an incredible facility that I’m proud to welcome our community into. I look forward to seeing the spaces come to life when it opens and for generations to come.”

Library+ at Caloundra also has a family-friendly junior library.

Located at 1 Omrah Avenue, Caloundra, it will officially open on Monday, September 22.

The current library will remain open to the public until September 14, although some temporary changes to service may occur.

Council’s customer contact centre will officially also relocate to the ground floor of Library+ on September 22.

To facilitate the relocation, the customer service counter at 77 Bulcock Street, Caloundra will close at 2pm on Friday, September 19.

The doors to this new facility open from 10am for a family-friendly celebration including face painting for children.

Throughout the day, council’s team will be stationed throughout the building to share insights and answer any questions about Library+ Caloundra.

Facilities include a quiet lounge area, meeting rooms, AV booths, BYO device benches, a kids’ library where children can engage with the interactive STEM wall, an outdoor covered area and a kiosk on the ground floor.

The council stated that there will no access to the local library service between September 14 and 22, when there will be a careful transition of books and resources from the existing library into the new Library+ facility, “allowing for a smooth and finalised relocation”.
