An established restaurant is bringing the taste of Sardinia to a riverside location after expanding from a southern state.

Focusing on authentic flavours from Italy’s second biggest island, Sardo Noosa is the newest culinary offering specialising in fresh seafood and handmade pasta.

Building off the success of Sardo Sorrento, its Victorian-based restaurant on the Mornington Peninsula, owners Danny Isaac and Stefano Rassu saw opening a Noosa location as a “natural fit”.

The restaurant opened on June 13 and is located at 4 Thomas Street, which was previously home to Frenchies Brasserie.

“There are a lot of similarities here in Noosaville as there are in Sorrento,” Mr Isaac told Sunshine Coast News.

“You’ve got a seasonal nature to the place – a lot of tourism – but also a massive local demographic.

Sardo Noosa offers traditional Sardinian food and wines.

“We have a lot of customers who come up here to defrost from our cold Sorrento winters, so it’s been a really natural fit for us.

“We are replicating what we do in Sorrento, just in Noosa.”

Mr Isaac said the menu focused on the traditional cuisine and wines of the Italian island, with the chefs and most of the staff hailing from Sardinia.

The dishes are crafted from fresh, locally sourced ingredients served within the cosy restaurant atmosphere.

“’Sardo’ is short for Sardinia, and most of us are Sardinian,” he said.

“Sardinia, being an island, we have a lot of seafood and we make delicious fresh pasta.

“Our fish stew has been a hit, and one of our signature pastas is a lobster and burrata ravioli.

“We don’t have a huge menu; we focus on having a few things and doing them well.

“We complement that with daily specials where the chefs can get creative, and that keeps the menu fresh.”

Mr Isaac said providing a place where locals wanted to dine was important.

“We are big, big supporters of locals,” he said.

“We are so excited about showcasing what we do in the Noosa community and show off our food and wine.”

Sardo Noosa is open daily for lunch and dinner.
