Police have charged a man following a fatal traffic crash in the Sunshine Coast hinterland on Thursday afternoon.

A 70-year-old Palmwoods man died when his motorcycle and a Holden Colorado utility collided at the intersection of Hunsley and Obi Obi roads just before 3pm.

The utility driver, a man, 54, from New South Wales, has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death or grievous bodily harm.

He is due to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on May 13.

Investigations by the Forensic Crash Unit are continuing.

Anyone with relevant information or dash cam footage is urged to contact police.
