A Mediterranean-style wine bar has expanded its offering next door with a new restaurant inspired by long summer days.

After opening Casita Wine Bar last year, Kate Gear and her husband, former New Zealand rugby star Hosea Gear, have launched Casa Restaurant.

Mrs Gear said Casa was an evolution for the brand and offered “something a little more luxe” while matching the success of Casita.

“Inspired by my love for creating experiences through interiors and the beautiful time spent living on the Mediterranean as a family, Casa was a natural extension of Casita,” she said.

“When the space next door became available, Casa felt like the perfect next step, an opportunity to offer something a little more elevated while staying true to the warmth and hospitality that define us.

“Both spaces feel like an escape to the Mediterranean – Casita is coastal, intimate and homely, while Casa brings a touch more luxury.

“It’s about embracing ‘l’art de vivre’ – the Mediterranean art of slowing down, savouring simple pleasures and sharing beautiful moments over food and wine.”

Mrs Gear said Casa offered authentic flavours and a place to embrace the Mediterranean way of life.

“While Casita is relaxed and coastal, Casa offers a more refined and intimate dining experience,” she said.

“It’s designed for long, leisurely meals, where every detail – from the dishes to the wine list – has been thoughtfully curated to enhance the experience.

“Casa offers a more luxurious take on Mediterranean dining. The menu is reminiscent of long summer days on the French Riviera, Amalfi Coast and the Costa Brava.

“It’s all about simple, bold flavours, quality ingredients and dishes that encourage sharing and connection.”

Mrs Gear said diners could expect slow-cooked meats, fresh seafood, seasonal produce and timeless classics.

“Our pappardelle ragu and slow-cooked lamb shoulder have quickly become guest favourites, along with our burrata with homemade Napoli sauce to start,” she said.

“For the perfect European-style ending to your meal, our tiramisu and creme brulee offer the perfect balance of indulgence and lightness, satisfying any sweet tooth.

“Our curated wine list complements the menu beautifully, featuring selections that elevate the dining experience and invite guests to linger a little longer.”

Casa Restaurant is at 1/26 River Esplanade, Mooloolaba, and is open Wednesday and Thursday for dinner and Friday to Sunday for lunch and dinner.
