“Astromony and astrophotography are a great hobby are there is a very active group on the Sunshine Coast who indulge in this pursuit,” writes Paul Baker.

“Weather permitting, we meet around the new moon up at Maleny Observatory at the Maleny Golf Club. We hold public nights to educate people about our skies and the beauty of the stars and the universe around us.

“As part of this group, Dr Ken Wishaw is integral in establishing a Dark Sky Reserve in the Obi Obi Valley.

“This image was taken on the Sunshine Coast using a Sky-Watcher Esprit 120 telescope over the last few months, between the clouds when Tropical Cyclone Alfred finally made room for clear skies.”
