A proposal for a tavern has been discarded to make way for more apartments in a thriving suburb near the coast.

The $10 million Peregian Springs Tavern was originally expected to be built alongside 50 units, after approval with conditions was granted in 2022.

But developer Billy Lids Australia has decided to pivot.

Director Mark Bain detailed the change in plans.

“After much thought and consultation with major industry players we have adjusted our sales regarding our project at Peregian Springs,” he told Sunshine Coast News.

“The exciting news is the 50-unit complex (Avoca Residences) is well under way, as planned, to assist in accommodating the growing need for more housing on the Sunshine Coast.

“And in fact, we will be adding another 27 units in place of the tavern, along with an allied health facility, and room for food outlets to assist with satisfying Peregian Springs residents’ needs for socialising locally.

“Though the tavern was a wonderful idea in concept, this now multi-faceted development will better service the community.

“PUSH Architects worked closely with us on the redesign, and the outcome has been another very modern and aesthetically pleasing building.”

“We are early in the approvals process however we anticipate this project will roll on from completion of Avoca Residences,” Mr Bain said.

Avoca is expected to be completed by early to mid-next year.

Sales for those units are well under way, with 20 sold via Lynx Property Group.

Mark Bain Constructions is working with PUSH Architects, which designed the award-winning Sunshine Beach Surf Club redevelopment.

The development is off Koel Circuit, near the area’s main shopping centre, which includes a Coles supermarket.

Peregian Springs’ population has ballooned during the past decade. It was home to about 12,000 people in 2023.
