Two Sunshine Coast hinterland destinations have topped a popular accommodation website’s list of the most welcoming places in Australia.

Montville and Maleny secured the top spots in the category in Booking.com’s 2025 Traveller Review Awards, recognising their outstanding hospitality and visitor experience.

The awards, which are based on more than 360 million traveller reviews worldwide, saw a record 27,432 Australian tourism operators recognised for their commitment to exceptional service.

Visit Sunshine Coast head of industry and trade development Andrew Fairbairn said the recognition reflected the hospitality, natural beauty and rich experiences that make the two towns so special.

“Montville and Maleny have long been cherished for their boutique accommodation, award-winning restaurants and stunning natural scenery,” he said.

“Whether it’s exploring lush rainforests, visiting artisan galleries or simply soaking up the breathtaking views of the Glass House Mountains, these villages offer an unforgettable escape.”

Maleny has been recognised for its welcoming vibe.

Booking.com regional manager Oceania Todd Lacey said the awards showcased destinations with great charm and hospitality.

“Our Booking.com partners go above and beyond to help create memorable travel moments,” he said.

“The annual Traveller Review Awards are just one way that we can spotlight these dedicated hospitality heroes.”

Mr Fairbairn highlighted the crucial role the Sunshine Coast hinterland plays in the region’s broader tourism appeal.

“Hinterland tourism is essential to the Sunshine Coast experience,” he said.

“While our beaches are a major drawcard, the hinterland offers a completely different yet complementary escape. These villages provide visitors with unique experiences – whether it’s a luxury stay in a rainforest retreat, a scenic drive through the Blackall Range or a visit to one of our famous cheese factories or wineries.

“This recognition from Booking.com reinforces just how special Montville and Maleny are, not just for their stunning scenery but for the warmth and hospitality of the people who welcome visitors with open arms.

“It’s a testament to the passionate operators who create memorable experiences for travellers every day.”
